Extreme Games Website Redesign

Post by Thanatos » December 12th, 2007, 8:31 pm

As I cannot devote much time on the EG site, we need you guys help. I know that there are a couple guys with decent web development skills (frontend/backend)

If you are interested in helping, you can reply the post along with your web skills here. Also it would be great if you can estimate the hours you can devote on the project.

It depends on what you want. I would be willing to help with something if needed, but I haven't done any backend coding in a long time. . . I could probably do some general layout stuff though.

I guess it would be hard to get many guys to collaborate together on a single project.

What probably should be done is to first rebuild the layout and an integrated login code. Then we can break down to small projects.

the best way to get started is to have a list of activities that need to be done.

you can do it in an excel spread sheet with the following columns

* Task number
* task name ( or page link to modify, etc)
* description
* status (pending, in progress, finished or closed)
* Requirement ( issue fix or new requirement)
* ET ( estimated time in hours)
* Resource ( who will take care of the task)
* Comments
* Results

you can then color code them, say green for completed and closed, yellow for In progress and white for Pending.

I could help with the re-design if you are interested in converting the entire site into a php/mysql database of some sort. I think I spoke to you before about possibly converting it to Joomla I don't have an abundance of time but I would be willing to setup the initial setup and create a skin.

I Never head back from you.

Since you don't seem to have much time & leading a project like this can suck up a lot of time, I think you should nominate some trustworthy person to be project leader.

I nominate EuRa for project leader as he seems to have time, the drive, and the neccessary organizational skills for a project like this to move forward at a fairly rapid pace.

Which is why I think thana should trust someone to be project leader. If he doesn't have time to step up and talk to ppl who have offered their help, he should designate someone at the very least.

How about turning EG's main page into a wiki page, I think there are enough people willing to contribute / maintain it to make it useful...

Than,

Any update as to when EG.net will be close to looking like a normal web page again? Also, if now why don't you just link the forums to the main index.htm page?

Also, if nothing else why don't you at least setup a "Image Gallery" again so that we can throw up pictures and whatnot?

Just a thought,

Beet

Than, I think I already sent you a PM about assisting in the past... If not, then let me tell you that I can now.

My 'Skills" include proficient use of the following, but not limited to;...

PHP, MySQL, Most Macromedia Products, vBulletin, Joomla, PHPBB, CS-Cart, and your basic/advanced HTML, XHTML, SHTML, and everyones favorite... good old notepad, which is what I started writing websites with back in 95... Anyhow, I would be more than happy to at least start with what I suggested a couple posts ago. Let me know if you still require help with this. I have about 3 hours a week time I would contribute. Of course I wouldn't charge anything seeing how this is one of my internet hobbies. My most recent webpage/design is http://www.llis.gov

Let me know,
Beet
